The Sunday reset

Not a workout. Not a Sunday sermon.

Sixty minutes of gentle movement, breathwork and meditation on the grass, under trees instead of mirrors. New to yoga? This is where you start. Been at it for years? This is where you come back to. Studio classes can be expensive and a little intimidating, and practising alone at home rarely sticks. Park Yoga sits in between: affordable, outdoors, and done with a regular group.

Who is this for

The total beginner

Never done yoga, don't own a mat, a little worried about looking silly. No judgement and no chanting. This is exactly where you start.

Tired in a way sleep does not fix

You're not unwell, just switched on all the time. Tight shoulders, a busy mind, and you can't remember the last time you properly rested. One hour on Sunday starts to shift that.

The Sunday seeker

You're not religious, but you want a Sunday that means something, not just brunch and scrolling. You'll find your people here.

What you get

Arrival and grounding

Roll out your mat (or borrow one), settle in, and meet the regulars. We start with a few quiet minutes to land in the present.

Breathwork and warm-up

Gentle movement to wake up your body without strain, suitable for any age or fitness level.

A flowing yoga sequence

Adapted to whoever shows up, with options for every pose. No advanced shapes required.

Guided meditation

A short, accessible meditation to finish. Often the part people end up loving most, even the self-described non-meditators.

Community after class

Stay for a tea and a chat. Many come for the practice and stay for the people.

Mats and props provided

No mat? We have spares, plus blocks, straps and bolsters. Just bring yourself.

How it works

1

9:45am โ€” Arrive at the park

Find us near the northern entrance by the large fig trees. Set up your mat and say hi; Sundays are friendly.

2

9:55am โ€” Welcome circle

We say hello to anyone new and check for injuries. Two minutes at most, then we begin.

3

10:00am โ€” Class begins

Breathwork, warm-up, then a flowing sequence shaped around whoever's on the mat that day.

4

10:40am โ€” Cool-down and meditation

Lying on the grass with the sky above, often the first time people exhale all week.

5

11:00am โ€” Class ends

Stay for tea and a chat, wander to a nearby cafรฉ with the regulars, or leave whenever feels right.

First class is free. Always.

First time at Park Yoga? Don't pay a cent. Come along, see how it feels, and decide if it's for you. If you love it, pay what feels right next time. If you don't, no harm done. We've run it this way for four years.

What people say

Testimonials

I came to my first class hungover after a friend's birthday and figured I'd hate it. Six months later I haven't missed a Sunday. It's the only thing I'm properly consistent with, and I'm better for it.

Newtown ยท 6 months regular

I moved to Sydney during the pandemic and didn't know anyone. Park Yoga gave me a Sunday ritual and a few real friends, both things I didn't realise I was missing.

Glebe ยท 1 year regular

I'm 58 and was nervous about being the oldest there. I'm not. There's every age, and Sudesh is the warmest teacher I've had. I bring my husband now.

Common questions

FAQ

Not at all. Most of our regulars started exactly where you are. Sudesh explains every pose and gives options for every level. Give it a week or two and you'll feel like a regular.
No. We always have spare mats, blocks, straps and bolsters. Bring your own if you prefer it, otherwise just turn up.
We gather near the northern entrance of Fontenoy Park, by the large fig trees. There is street parking close by and public transport nearby. Arrive around 9:45am so you have time to settle in.
It varies week to week, usually anywhere from a handful to a couple of dozen people. Big enough to feel the energy, small enough that Sudesh sees everyone.
Light rain, we still run. Heavy rain, we move to cover or cancel and let you know by 8am. You only ever pay on the day, so weather never costs you.
Yes. $20 is a guideline, not a rule. Some pay more to cover someone else, some pay nothing for a while. Both are welcome, and your first class is always free.
Please do. First-timers always come free, and monthly pass holders get a free guest pass each month.
